The Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret is a small independent museum in Londin Bridge. Covid19 has hit us as hard as everyone else. Part of our mission as a medical museum was to care for the wellbeing of our followers during lockdown! This presentation would focus on the fun, crazy, but always educational content that the Old Op has created (and continues to create) for our followers.
I’ll be talking about Museum Disability Collaborative Network
I'd like to talk about the joys, strains and endless comic value of swapping between oh so many professional 'hats'. As an early career professional, furlough has added to my sense of pressure to be constantly creative and endlessly flexible. But I've found connecting, commiserating and conspiring with museum colleagues has helped me to remember why I do this, how to prioritise and why "productivity" isn't everything, so I want to keep that spirit going, with a little touch of fun!
I curate Mr Punch's Cabinet of Curiosities, probably the smallest traveling 'museum' in the UK. With its roots in the sideshows of the old traveling fairs and the touring tent shows of oddities, Mr Punch's Cabinet of Curiosities brings a magical, wonderful and sometimes gruesome selection of displays for your entertainment and education. I would like to talk about how we use the collection to get our visitors to challenge 'Fake News' that is causing so may problems for the world currently. We proudly say that our collection contains 'Real Objects, Fake Objects and Real Fake Objects... but the stories are made from 100% real words!'. The film will include lots of images of our collection https://www.ashtoncartermagic.com/mrpunch
